Experience

Mr. Allen has over 25 years of experience counseling clients on legal matters involving both domestic (U.S.) and international issues. He has worked with numerous multinational corporations around the world providing legal advice relating to their Florida or international operations. For example, he advises The Ferretti Group, of Forli, Italy (one of the world’s leading luxury yacht manufacturing groups and makers of CRN, CustomLine, Ferretti, Riva, Pershing, Apreamare, and Bertram, among others) relating to their U.S. manufacturing and distribution operations. He recently was the lead attorney in the largest luxury yacht distribution transaction in the industry in the last decade, when Ferretti terminated a portion of its relationship with the Allied Marine Group and entered into a long-term agreement with MarineMax International. Mr. Allen has represented Traffic Marketing Esportivo, of Sao Paolo, Brazil, as well as its U.S. affiliate InterForever Sports, as well as its joint venture partners, including Torneos y Competencias of Argentina and T&T) providing legal advice relating to the international distribution and sale in the U.S. of the television and radio rights to major sporting events (soccer), including the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. He chaired, on behalf of a client, the Unsecured Creditors Committee for the only Edge Act bank to have filed for bankruptcy protection in U.S. history, Banco Latino Internacional and assisted, on behalf of a bankruptcy trustee, in the investigation of a major defalcation of assets involving the use of “offshore” corporations. For Vallehermoso, of Madrid, Spain, he assisted in the acquisition and disposition of U.S. real estate holdings.

He has provided legal advice to AT&T relating to the development of its fiber optic network in Florida as well as the acquisition and disposition of real estate holdings. For IBM, he provided counsel relating to the acquisition and disposition of properties in Florida, as well as the development of various policies regarding Florida operations. For Credit Lyonnais, he initiated the process of opening operations of both their banking and trust subsidiaries in the Bahamas. For Royal Caribbean Cruise Line he negotiated the acquisition of a private destination, Labadee, in Haiti. These negotiations involved a succession of governments following a period of turmoil in Haiti. For Admiral Cruise Line (since acquired by RCCL) he represented the company in the acquisition of Little Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. Mr. Allen also represented the Thomas Lipton Company in negotiations respecting the International Players Tournament n/k/a “The Nasdaq 100” tennis tournament, on Key Biscayne, Florida.

He led the due-diligence on the acquisition of Del Monte Fresh Produce, an acquisition of over half a billion dollars. He represented the members of the Wyndemere Golf Club in the acquisition of the golf course and club from its developer.

Mr. Allen has represented Argentine television producer Central Park Productions, Inc. in negotiations with the Telemundo Television Network; InterForever Sports, Inc. n/k/a Traffic Sports USA, Inc. in the negotiation of long-term television contracts with, and/or successful lawsuits against, the Univision Television Network, Telemundo, the Fox Sports Network, and Televisa; and T&T Sports (a joint venture of Traffic Marketing Esportivo and Torneos y Competencias, S.A., of Buenos Aires Argentina), in a successful lawsuit against Dream Sports International. He also represented the Brazilian Bandeirantes television network on issues involving television rights to the National Basketball Association and the Indianapolis 500.

He has represented Grammy award winning or nominated entertainers such as Enrique Iglesias, Paulina Rubio, Ricardo Arjona, Alexandre Pires, Los Bacilos and Café Quijano.

Community Service

In 2000, Mr. Allen served at the request of the George W. Bush Campaign for President and the Republican Party of Florida as part of the legal team involved in the resolution of key election related issues in Miami-Dade County, Florida, for which he received a citation from the State of Florida Republican Party. He served, by appointment of Governor Jeb Bush, as a Commissioner of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the 11th Judicial Circuit, and formerly served, also by appointment of the Governor, as member of the Board of Trustees of New College of Florida (the state’s honors college).

He is also a member of the Board of Directors of The Ocean Conservancy, based in Washington, D.C., which is the world’s oldest and largest non-profit organization dedicated to conservation of the oceans and marine wildlife, for which he chairs its Personnel Committee, and formerly served as a member of the Board of Directors of The Foundation for Democracy in Africa, also based in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Allen was the Republican Party candidate for the United States Congress, Florida District 19, in 1990. He has served as Campaign Manager or Finance Chairman for various campaigns of Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (currently Vice Chairman of the Rules Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives), as Miami-Dade Co-Chairman of the successful Campaign to Elect Connie Mack to the U.S. Senate and Finance Director of the Miami-Dade County Republican Party.

Mr. Allen founded and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Miami Bridge, Inc., Miami-Dade County’s largest and longest standing short-term residential facility for troubled youth. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of St. Thomas University and as a member of the Board of Directors of the College Assistance Program of Miami-Dade County. He served as the Mayor of Miami’s appointee to the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority, and Chairman of its Sports Committee, during the period in which the Miami Heat played its first season and successful efforts began to attract major league baseball and hockey franchises to South Florida. He also served as Chairman of Miamians for Baseball PAC.
